About Westerstrand

Westerstrand is a sandy beach located in the Netherlands, in the region of Frisia. It is 1.732 meters away from Het Rif and 1988 meters from the village of Schiermonnikoog. OpenStreetMap lists no nudism at this beach.

The Westerstrand is a beach in the west of the island of Schiermonnikoog. The area of the beach depends on the tides. In the southwest is a wide sandy plain, the Rif, which was formed by the closure of the Lauwerszee. Behind the Westerstrand lie the Westerduinen. The beach and the dunes are hundreds of meters wide.

Before 1720, a village called Westerburen was located where the Westerstrand is now. On a map from the 17th century, a church, a mill, and fourteen houses can be seen. From 1650 onward, the sea came closer and closer, and the houses were washed away, until the entire village disappeared.
