Check the Beach

Privacy policy

Last updated October 17, 2026. Check the Beach does not have accounts, so we do not hold your name, email or password.

What we collect

If you allow analytics cookies, Google Analytics records the pages you view, roughly where you are (city or region), your device and browser, and how you got here. We use it to see which pages are useful. You can change your choice any time under “Privacy and cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.

To suggest beaches near you, we use the approximate location our hosting provider, Cloudflare, attaches to each request. We do not store it. “Beaches near me” uses your device’s location only after you allow it in your browser, and only to look up nearby beaches for that request.

Cloudflare also keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses) for a short time to run and protect the site.

Cookies and your consent

We use Google’s consent tool, a Google-certified consent management platform that follows the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework. In the EU, UK and Switzerland it asks for your consent before we use analytics or advertising cookies, and you can consent, refuse or choose per purpose. In US states with privacy laws it offers a “Do not sell or share my personal information” link.

Live cams (YouTube and Windy)

Beach cams are shown with their provider’s own player. A cam’s player loads only when you press play; until then the page shows a picture served from our own site (a recent frame of the stream, which our server fetches from YouTube without any of your details, or a photo of the beach), and your browser requests nothing from YouTube or Windy.

We do not store or analyze cam images, and we do not use cams to identify anyone.

Booking partners

Some links take you to partners such as Viator (tours and activities) and Stay22 (hotels and rentals). If you book, we may earn a commission; the price you pay is the same. Once you are on a partner’s site, its own privacy policy applies, and it may use cookies to credit the booking to us.

Your choices and rights

You can change your choices any time from “Privacy and cookie settings”, block cookies in your browser, or install Google’sAnalytics opt-out add-on. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access or delete data about you; since we hold no accounts, analytics data is the only kind we could act on.
